2011 Skate Deck Art Show Recap

$4,000 RAISED FOR PUBLIC SKATEPARKS

Killer venue, cool crowd and folks down for the public skatepark cause! Our 4th Skate Deck Art Show fundraiser netted better than $4,000 for public skatepark development and maintenance. Silent auction bids started at $20 with the top 3 decks auctioning live before an ethusiastic, all ages crowd of 200-plus at The Lowbrow Palace. Check out the event pics!

The benefit featured more than 80 decks dollied up with a wide variety of styles and materials. Prior to leaving El Paso to explore India and teach English, local skater/artist Theron Nicholson threw down the amazing, tri-fold piece called "No Obstacles Exist" which sold for $260.

Competition was keen during the live bidding with Francella's "La Chucana" selling for more than $400 to Lilly Salas - the top grossing deck of the night! Popular New York City-base artist Lars Klingstedt created a of couple of sexy blue/black muscle car grill prints - they sold as a set for $300. Other featured artists included Hurley International's Jason Maloney and sicko local Chris Melero who made a pair of 3D paper mache demons. Many attendees cruised off with killer art at low-low prices. See pics of (almost) all of the individual deck art pieces.

DJ Birth Defects set the music mood with a seemingly endless stream of rare vinyl cuts and lucky winners scored big with door prizes from Crooks Skateshop (complete skateboard), Vans, Hurley and Red Skull Tattoo. The event was previewed in the El Paso Times newspaper.

Again, a big muchas gracias to all of our artists and volunteers who donated their time and creative energy - without you it doesn't happen!
